Castries & Marigot Bay - "Down in de valley"

On this half day-trip, the first stop is the Cathedral in Castries, which was given Basilica status by Pope John Paul II on his visit to St. Lucia in July, 1986. Alongside the Cathedral is the famous Derek Walcott Square, named after one of St. Lucia’s Nobel Laureate, Derek Walcott. The trip continues through Morne Fortune, where we view the Governor’s mansion overlooking the Capital city.

Through Cul-de-sac Valley and one of our largest banana plantations, you continue south to La Croix Maingot, which depicts the lush green vegetation of St. Lucia. Our next stop is Marigot Bay. By ferry, a two-minute water ride takes you to the Marigot Beach Club for refreshments. Considered by many to be the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean, Marigot is situated on the West Coast of St. Lucia, serving as a haven for yachtsmen from all over the world and the location where the movies “Dr. Dolittle” (1967) with Rex Harrison and “Firepower” (1979) with Sophia Loren were filmed.
